I-J-2-d. PROFESSOR HAROLD WARD SIBERT (1891 – 1973), son son of Major General William Luther Sibert4 (William3, David2, John David1)

Professor Harold "Hap" Ward Sibert was born on 9 May 1892. [1] He died on 17 December 1973, aged 81. [1] He married first Marjorie Ann Doster on 9 February 1924 in Hamilton County, Ohio. [2] Marjory, the daughter of Jacob and Olive (West) Doster, was born on 1 January 1898 in Chillicothe, Ross County, Ohio. [3] She died on 10 December 1927, aged 29, at her home in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio. [4][5] He married second Esther Florence Traver on 6 August 1930 in Hamilton County. Florence, the daughter of Edgar B. and Esther E. (Stevens) Traver, was born on 30 October 1898. [1][2][6] She died on 11 May 2000, aged 101. [1][6]

Hap and Florence are buried in Arlington National Cemetery. The inscriptions on their gravestones say: [1]

Harold won the intercollegiate Clemens Medal for foils in April 1911. [7]

Hap received a Ph.D. in mathematics from the University of Cincinnati in 1946. [8] He was a lieutenant colonel in the Air Force; he fought in World War II and Korea. [1]

According to the census, in 1940, Harold, aged 47 and born in Kentucky, and Florence, aged 41 and born in Kentucky, lived in Cincinnati with their son Edgar, aged two. Harold was an assistant professor. [9]

Harold was a professor of aerospace engineering. "'Hap' Sibert joined the faculty [of the University of Colorado] in 1946 from the University of Cincinnati. ... He was a nationally known authority in aircraft power plants including jet engines, and perhaps the nation's top rocket scientist. [10]

According to the census, in 1950, Harold, aged 57, and Florence, aged 51, lived in Boulder, Boulder County, Colorado with their son Edgar, aged 12. Harold was a professor of aeronautical engineering. [9]

According to an obituary: [8]

A Cincinnati expert on high speed aircraft behavior, who helped develop the 400 mph World War II workhorse P47 Thunderbolt fighter plane has died. ... Dr. Sibert's teaching and research ranged from cloth covered biplanes to manned spaceflight ...

Children of Harold Sibert and Florence Traver:

i. Harold Edgar Sibert was born on 13 September 1937 in Ohio. [1][11] He died on 8 March 1988, aged 50, in Denver, Colorado and is buried in the Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati. [1][12]
